Varieties of rib-and-slab ceilings

The most characteristic varieties of dense-ribbed ceilings:

• Ceiling made of Akerman-type ceramic hollow bricks – Ceiling without prefabricated beams, made of ceramic hollow blocks laid on formwork arranged along the ceiling ribs. After concreting the ceiling, the ribs have a wheelbase 31 Cm. The height of the hollow blocks depends on the span of the ceiling (the greater the span and load of the ceiling, the higher the blocks) and is 15, 18, 20 or 22 Cm. The ribs are concreted on the construction site, including the upper plate with a thickness of 3 Cm.

• Ceiling made of DZ type concrete blocks – Prefabricated reinforced concrete beams are filled with concrete blocks. After pouring, the upper concrete slab is tied to the beams with stirrups (which provides greater rigidity). Beams have a wheelbase 60 Cm. They are produced in several varieties, adapted to the load on the ceiling. The most common in residential construction is the DZ-3 ceiling, with beam height 20 Cm.

• Ceilings made of FERT-type ceramic hollow bricks – Prefabricated ribs are in the form of truss beams concreted in ceramic fittings. Beams have modular spans from 2,7 into 6,0 m, with a jump every 30 Cm. FERT ceilings are produced in several varieties differing in the width of the filling blocks and the axial spacing of the ceiling beams (40 Cm, 45 cm and 60 Cm).
