Contact of the outer wall with the roof

The contact of the outer wall with the roof has a great impact on the architectural expression of the whole building. Depending on the type of roof, its edging may have different heights:

• In full flat roofs, the height from the support of the ceiling rim on the wall to the top of the attic is small.

• In double-section flat roofs with ventilated space, the height increases. An additional accent is created by ventilation holes.

• In flat roofs with external drainage, there is an eaves with gutters instead of an attic. Depending on the architectural and construction solution, the eaves can be extended above the wall, lean on the cornice or be retracted beyond the wall.

The outer wall under the roof can be brought to different heights. The consequence of the choice is a different way of finishing the attic:

• The outer wall can be brought to the very top of the parapet wall, completed only with a narrow strip of flashing.

• The outer wall may end below the ceiling skirt. Attics of the roof, located above the end of the diaphragm wall, it is then protected by a concrete element, which covers the attic wall at the entire height.

• In slotted flat roofs, in which the formwork with a waterproofing layer is raised above the insulation, sheet metal cover is often used, plastic or wood cladding.

• In double flat roofs, with a high ventilated space and thus with a high attic wall, at the height of the ceiling wreath, a cornice may appear separating the attic from the wall of the last floor, etc..
