Carpet tiles by the fireplace – tiled stove

Carpet tiles are in the construction of tiled stoves a material usually used to maintain cleanliness on the floor under the stove. In addition, a non-combustible material must be laid around the opening of the combustion chamber. Floor plates are sufficient for chimney stoves, for example. Glass, cast iron or steel sheet. For fixed tiled stoves, carpet tiles are usually used, because thanks to their various shapes and dimensions, they are best suited for this task. They are made of ceramic materials and are therefore non-flammable. Simple tiles without fancy ornaments are not expensive and easy to install, but in the area under the tiled stove, it is not about the appearance. This is where we need a smooth one, even surface with well-filled joints between the tiles. If we place our stove on a concrete or screed plinth and through the arch in the plinth, we can see the floor under the stove or, when an arc-shaped bench is added to the furnace, under which the floor is visible, we should do the job this way, so that the joints between the tiles under the stove and in the room match each other and are not shifted to each other. Because the carpet tiles under the tiled stove get hotter, we should stick them with so-called elastic glue, suitable for underfloor heating. We can use an elastic grout to fill the gaps between the tiles.

When purchasing the joint compound, pay attention to the performance information on the packaging. Let's also remember, that the data is about work, where joints of uniform depth and width are filled. Because it is important when pointing, to do it in one continuous process, we need to provide ourselves with a sufficient amount of mass. After filling the gap, wipe the tiles quickly with a damp cloth.

If the floor in the living room is covered with carpet tiles and these tiles also run under the stove, it is recommended to make an expansion joint between these areas, that there are no cracks in the floor. The expansion joint should be filled with a mass of permanently elasticity. Various colors of silicone masses are offered.
