Examination of building features

The analysis of the technical condition of the endangered brick object is preceded by a detailed study of scratches and deformations. Usually, this activity boils down to measuring and observing scratches and deformations and applying them on drawings or photographic boards..

Measurement of scratches and observations of their development are carried out in a properly determined period of time. These studies are aimed at determining the course of the formation of scratches and the activity of their enlargement. Observations shall be made by means of control stickers (Bars), which is made of glass, cement or gypsum mortar.

Gypsum stickers are used on dry walls, and glass or cement mortar in places exposed to moisture. Before affixing the stickers, the width and depth of the scratches are measured and the extent of their ends is accurately marked on the wall in a permanent way.

Stickers are affixed to each noticed crack as a rule perpendicular to its direction, Ie. according to the direction of formation of the greatest tensile stresses. “To do this, a layer of plaster is removed and after wetting the masonry, a sticker is attached to the parts separated by a scratch. The ends of gypsum stickers are fixed with gypsum mortar, and glass or cement stickers —— cement mortar. On the lula sticker next to it, the date of establishment is entered.

Measurement and observation of scratches, if necessary, is also carried out using more precise devices than stickers; these can be strain gauges, sensors or other measuring instruments.

When examining the deformations of a building, it is often necessary to use leveling to determine, whether there are no processes of settling or lifting part of the building, in addition, the vertical position of the walls is measured to determine whether they do not move or rotate. Leveling involves the installation of repers on the building and their reference to fixed points outside the tested object. Installation of repairs and leveling measurements are carried out already in the phase of architectural measurement inventory; this activity is an essential element of the scientific research of the facility and any inventory.

Basic documents, in which all observations and comments from the course of research and observations are recorded, as well as circumstances revealed in the course of research that may affect the preservation of the monument, as well as the issued orders regarding the procedure to be carried out during the tests, are: research journal and drawing backgrounds.

In the log and on the drawing backings, the numbering of the stickers with a brief description of the initial state should be given.

All scratches are applied to the drawing primers, delamination of the masonry and any deformations. If necessary, an illustration of the scratches shall be made on the drawing in the expansion (for example. near the vaults, domes, etc.). The starting state of the tests should be shown with the greatest possible accuracy in the drawings, so the width of the scratches, their depth, course and termination. This course of action is necessary due to the course of observation: it allows you to track any changes taking place in the wall, especially record the further development of cracks and their expansion, as well as map stabilized processes. If scratches open, diagrams are drawn up, on which the changes taking place in relation to the adopted timer of the tests are applied.
