HEATING WITHOUT STOVE APPLIANCES

We have little information about the heating of inhabited rooms in the old days in Poland, but we know from the literature of other countries, that the field of heating and ventilation, in all stages of its development up to our time; it was considered as one whole and was dependent on the culture of the people, his work, rest and reflected the class and property status of man.

The development of heating and ventilation technology can be divided depending on the introduction of basic heating systems, into three stages, none of which correspond exactly to any historical period, but it is related to the development of civilization.

The heating technique in the first stage was primitive. It consisted of lighting a fire in the center of the room, and the exhaust gases leaked through the ajar door or. also through a specially left hole in the roof. Quarters of the rulers of China, Japan and the palaces of Roman patricians were heated with charcoal, often even speckled with fragrant oils, in addition, it is burned in beautiful hearths. However, in the chambers, inhabited by the people, the fire was lit in the center of the room on the ground or floor and as long as the fire was burning, the heat of the inhabitants gathered around. The ash was cleaned at night, and the warm place was for sleep. Until now, the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes still use this method of heating.

In Russia, it was not until Peter I the Great in his ordinances (1698—1728) he banned the construction of "czoryne" rooms with hens (dymnymi) fires.
